Innovation in Defence: A Necessary Acceleration
Innovation is more than a luxury; it is a necessity. Many conflicts revolve around renewal, the fastest to adapt and harness the power of innovation win the battle. In an increasingly dangerous world, innovation is the key to success.
This key is in the hands of entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions, and governments. The Golden Triangle, the Ministry of Defense is determined to invest further in this, aiming to stay one step ahead of our adversaries. Together with our NATO partners, the plan is to deter by being well-prepared for potential conflicts.
The cabinet will invest significantly in the armed forces with an additional 2.4 billion euros, bringing the total to 24 billion euros per year. Of this amount, 1 billion euros is earmarked for industry and innovation, focused on developing new products, services, and technologies. We will not only support startups but also scale-ups to increase production capacity.
In collaboration with the Regional Development Agencies and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Defense is establishing the SecFund this year, the Security Fund. This fund will start with a capital of 100 million euros and is intended to stimulate innovations that benefit both the armed forces and society. This is the missing link for financing innovative companies.
This results in a win-win situation: both military and economic advantages. It strengthens our security, creates new income and jobs, and is beneficial for the region.
